A SaaS renewal price increase is the percent the vendor applies when the term rolls. The renewal uplift page puts the median across the deals it describes at 7.2 percent in 2026, up from 4.8 percent in 2022. Contractual caps in that write-up cluster at 3 percent, 5 percent, and 7 percent. Segment notes on the same page put ERP and HR around 5 to 6 percent, CRM and ITSM around 7 to 9 percent, and observability and security around 9 to 14 percent.
The median is the start. The invoice depends on three clauses.
Base, cap, and coverage#
Base. Some contracts apply the percent to the prior negotiated rate. Others apply it to then-current list. The renewal uplift page states that a list base can produce an effective increase of 20 to 40 percent when list has moved, even if the named percent looks ordinary.
Cap life. A cap in year one that disappears in a later year is a one-year promise. Read the year the cap ends, and whether the renewal itself resets it.
Coverage. Seat price can be capped while platform fees, add-ons, and consumption units are open. The increase that matters is the one on the SKUs that will still be on the order.
What to put beside the percent#
Pull the prior order, the new order, and the clause that names the base. Compute both versions: percent on prior net, and percent on current list. The difference is the negotiation.
Notice timing sits next to the percent. Renewal timing and notice windows covers when a cloud renewal has to start and when non-renewal notice is due. Contract language that protects the discount covers the clauses that keep a first-term discount from eroding.
Quantity is a separate bill. Added users are a true-up. Unused users are a shelfware question, and they come out only when the contract allows a reduction. Shelfware at a software renewal is that path.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a normal SaaS renewal price increase?
- The renewal uplift page in this library puts the median 2026 increase at 7.2 percent, up from 4.8 percent in 2022. ERP and HR sat lower in that write-up. Security and observability sat higher. The percent still depends on the base it is applied to.
- What is renewal uplift?
- Renewal uplift is the price increase a vendor applies at renewal, usually as a percent. It is separate from a true-up, which bills added quantity.
- Can a small cap still produce a large increase?
- Yes, when the percent is applied to current list instead of the prior negotiated rate, or when platform fees and add-ons sit outside the cap.
